The Importance of Keeping Your Medical Check-Ups

With COVID-19 cases increasing in some areas, staying six feet away from others is still essential to maintaining your health. However, your doctor is not someone you should be avoiding.

According to a GoodRx survey of over 1,700 respondents, three out of four Americans have had to adjust their healthcare use due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These disruptions include canceling or postponing appointments for check-ups, delaying ongoing treatment for chronic conditions, putting off important cancer screenings, switching to telehealth, and skipping or rationing treatments or medications.

However, delaying important medical visits that are critical to your health and well-being can lead to unwanted or serious complications.

Advanced Dermatology Joins Other National Healthcare Leaders to Encourage Patients to Get the Care They Need

To reassure and encourage our patients to keep important check-ups, Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery has joined an alliance of industry-leading healthcare experts in a national campaign to “Stop Medical Distancing.”

“This campaign is aimed at reminding our patients that their health is important, even more so now during the current public health crisis,” said Advanced Dermatology Founder and CEO Dr. Matt Leavitt.

“Many skin conditions, including acne, psoriasis, eczema and others, can be triggered or worsened by factors such as heightened stress, changes in diet and exercise, and even by measures intended to keep you healthy – such as increased hand washing and mask wearing.

Annual Total-Body Skin Cancer Exams Save Lives

Skin cancer is still the most common form of cancer, and there’s no reason to believe it has taken a break. While many of our patients have been using our Telehealth option, the biggest risk in skipping your office visit with your dermatologist is to patients who are unaware they may have skin cancer. Early detection, including an annual total-body skin cancer exam, can make a difference in treating skin cancer, so it’s imperative that patients not delay any screenings.

It's Safe to Seek the Care You Need

“Additional screening procedures have been implemented, appointment times are being staggered, waiting rooms have been reconfigured to accommodate social distancing, visitors have been limited,  additional personal protective gear has been provided for all of our providers, and enhanced cleaning is being done for the safety of patients and staff in all Advanced Dermatology offices,” added Dr. Leavitt.

“We want you to know it’s safe to seek the care you need without delay. The best way for you to stay healthy is to stay in touch with your healthcare providers and to share this important message with your friends and family.”
