Men's Health: Hair Loss Solutions
Today, about 54 million men in the U.S. have some degree of hair loss. If you’re a man worried about thinning hair or a receding hair line, the first place to start is to determine if it’s caused by androgenetic alopecia, known as “male-pattern hair loss”, or might be caused by an underlying health issue such as a thyroid or autoimmune disorder, hormonal changes or even a scalp condition.
If you’re looking at alopecia, medical and surgical hair restoration treatments can help...and Advanced Dermatology has some of the nation’s leading hair restoration experts on our team to find the right solutions for you.
“This is an exciting time in the world of hair restoration, with a variety of topical and injectable therapies showing promise for addressing the problem of hair loss,” says Board-Certified Dermatologist Matt Leavitt, DO, Founder and CEO of Advanced Dermatology, who is one of the most renowned hair loss and hair restoration specialists in the world.
“There are many new and emerging products and techniques for the treatment of hair loss.” Following are just a few available at Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery.

Topical and Oral Treatments
There are a number of effective pharmaceutical options that can be applied topically or taken orally. One option is minoxidil, a topical option used to help stimulate hair growth and stabilize hair loss. Other medications like finasteride are taken orally and have been proven to be effective for some men. Spironolactone, another oral medication, has been effective for hair loss for women. Advanced Dermatology physicians continue to stay on the leading edge of hair-loss treatments and clinical studies and will work with each patient to find the right combination of treatments based on the patient’s specific condition, medical history and hair growth goals.
One of our most in-demand services for men is the newest treatment therapy from HydraFacial called HydraFacial with Keravive™, a three-step process to cleanse, stimulate, nourish and hydrate your scalp for fuller, healthier-looking hair.
Poor scalp health can result in dry skin, clogged hair follicles, dead skin cells and overall lack of scalp circulation. While these may not be clearly visible, they may result in damaged and thinning hair, or the inability to grow healthy hair.
Scalp health is important for everyone, but especially if you are trying to overcome thinning hair or just want your hair to be its healthiest. Keravive is like a lush massage for the scalp which also delivers important nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles.
Two of Keravive’s three steps are performed in-office, including the cleanse/exfoliate process which hydrates your scalp and hair follicles, followed by the luxurious stimulate/nourish component that invigorates your scalp circulation and delivers growth factors and skin proteins. The third part is a take-home, daily-use spray that extends and enhances the results of treatment.

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as Red Light Laser Therapy or cold laser therapy is a safe, well tolerated non-surgical hair restoration therapy which is used to promote hair growth and stabilize hair loss. The first LLLT hand-held device received FDA clearance for use by men in 2007 and by women in 2011. Currently, there are several devices with FDA clearance that can be used in the privacy of your own home.
Red Light Lasers deliver LLLT to your hair follicles to increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients, increase or improve blood supply and to activate them for stronger hair growth. This therapy requires ongoing treatments – several times per week -- to maintain results.
- Strengthens hair follicles
- Thickens thinning hair
- Stabilizes hair loss
- Has the potential for hair growth
- Is used for 20 minutes, 2-3 times a week (or as recommended by your Advanced Dermatology provider)
- Can be used in conjunction with other types of medications and therapy
- Safe, non-invasive
Hair Transplants
Hair transplants offer a permanent surgical solution for hair loss. Advanced Dermatology physicians can evaluate patient hair loss and determine if hair transplantation is a viable option for a patient.
