During national skin cancer awareness month in 2019, Advanced Dermatology joined Dillard’s, Inc., one of the nation’s most prestigious fashion retailers to shatter the Guinness World Records™ title for the Most People Applying Sunscreen Simultaneously in Multiple Venues.
At exactly 2 p.m. EST on May 18, 2019, 2,246 people crushed the previous record of 1,821 participants which had been set in 2014.
Participants were given free sunscreen samples at 15 Dillard’s locations across 11 states for this fun-filled event which featured music and a variety of activities that kept the excitement high. Providers from Advanced Dermatology were on-hand at three Florida locations to talk about skin cancer prevention and early detection, and to provide free skin cancer screenings.
“One in five people in the U.S. will develop skin cancer,” said Dr. Matt Leavitt, Founder and CEO of Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery. “That number is too high. We know that the sun’s damaging rays are the leading cause of skin cancer, and in states like Florida where sun exposure is almost unavoidable, we look for every opportunity to spread awareness about the importance of protecting your skin and getting annual total-body skin cancer exams. Partnering with Dillard’s, which is such an enormously respected fashion-industry leader, has been a great way to get our message out to our communities on a grand scale. Setting a record in the process was a win/win, too.”

The St. John’s Town Center Dillard’s in Jacksonville, FL was the headquarters location of the effort.
