Dr. Jay M. Barnett graduated magna cum laude from Boston University College of Liberal Arts, and he received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. There he trained at The Boston City Hospital and University Hospital.
After completing a three-year internal medicine residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, he completed a three-year residency in dermatology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He became board certified in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology.
Dr. Barnett has published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatology Clinics, The International Journal of Dermatology, and the Annals of Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. He has served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Health Sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He maintains staff privileges at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, and Medstar Montgomery Hospital, where he has served as the Section Chairman of Dermatology. He is a member of the DC Dermatology Society, the Collier County Medical Society, and the Florida Medical Association. Dr. Barnett has been named as one of the area's top doctors in the Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Consumer Checkbook magazine, and Bethesda Magazine. He splits his practice between Suburban Maryland and Southwest Florida.
